Thanks for your answers guys, but actually none of these options worked wit=
h
me! I have an Atheros Communications Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01) and
I'm using ndiswrapper to get it working properly (ndiswrapper made it work
much better than madwifi or ath5k), any ideas? Can I enable the LED when
using ndiswrapper?

It should work if you install the backports package for your kernel. =
In
8.04 you also needed the linux-ubuntu-modules package, but in 8.10 they
did away with that package.
What wireless card do you have in there (at least with the t61 there are th=

different options).

lspci | grep Ethernet
should give you the answer.

At least with intel iwl4965 I had to compile the compatwireless drivers wit=
h
the led enabled. With madwifi and atheros it required setting sysctl variab=
dev.wifi0.ledpin =3D 1
dev.wifi0.softled =3D 3

With ath5k I haven't managed to get it working with the in kernel drive=

and I'm currently on 2.6.29-rc so the compatwireless drivers don't =

Ok, this is getting seriously off-topic:
The display starts off fine, bright and clear. At random times during
the boot, it just goes completely blank and has to be rebooted for it
to appear again. The exact time from the start of the reboot when it
goes blank is different for every reboot.

Do you all still think it is an inverter problem? If not, then is it a
backlight problem? I then need to replace the backlight which seems to
be very complicated from the looks for it. I still haven't removed the<=
br>
LCD from the casing so I don't even know what lies behind it and how I<=
br>
can get to the backlight. Looking forward to all your guidance and
suggestions.

Thanks,
Krishna
The one laptop battery I bought some years back from ebay was fine. Bought<=

locally from a friend who orders them from china and also had no problem.<b=
There are two main issue that can come up,
1. The battery is over rated (says 4000 and its 3000 mAh). Check what is th=
e
expected capacity of the battery you are looking for. If they are rating it=
much higher then it's probably a fake (there is a limited capacity the<=
br>
batteries can have and assume that the manufacturer one almost achieves it)=

2. They may be old which means that they will die faster.

On the other hand they can be 30%-50% cheaper. If they are too cheap it&#39=
;s a=3D
lso
suspicious. Check local prices for replacement batteries. Order from someon=
e
with a lot of reviews.
