Of *course* it matters.  What kind of questions are these?  What exactly are
you trying to convince yourself of?  That it could be fine to buy el-cheap-o
batteries from a third party?

The answers ARE obvious.  Yes, it could.  It is a matter of luck, and you
can try to maximize your chances of not buying damaged, broken, or inferior
packs by sticking to the more reputable third-party battery vendors, IF
there are any.

And do keep in mind that if you're dealing with anything smaller than a
MAJOR battery pack manufacturer that does contract work to HP, Dell, Lenovo,
LG or others like them and sells packs on the side for the aftermarket,
you'll just be getting cells bought from the gray and black market, cobbled
up together in a pack that is only good enough to work.

AFAIK there isn't a reputable third-party battery pack manufacturer that
would track cells, battery packs, and offer recalls.  We would have heard
from them during the last Li-ION cell mess, and there wasn't a single peep.
But I'd be willing to be proven wrong here.
