Sorry, you are very right!
a) On wakeup, everything freezes and the CapsLock light blinks. I know 
the blinking means that the kernel suffered badly.
b) I have Nvidia card and I use its recommended driver (Ubuntu 9.40).
c) Suspend (to ram) works perfectly.
