Could you test GtkPerf[1]? It's supposed to be more significant. But
there's no considerable difference between my desktop (Core2Duo,
1,86 GHz, 3 GB RAM, Ubuntu 8.10, NVidia graphics) and my ThinkPad
(Core2Duo, 1,87 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Ubuntu 9.04, Intel graphics) with
Ted's X configuration---but my desktop's graphics performance is
*much* better than the one of my ThinkPad (BTW: about 800 fps with
glxgears).

Here's the output of GtkPerf (skull-tp = ThinkPad, lotus = desktop):

chris@skull-tp:~$ gtkperf # default X configuration

According to GtkPerf there's an considerable difference between the
default and Ted's X configuration. But it's not noticeable ... For
example desktop switching is as slow as with Ubuntu's default X
configuration

I did it the same way.
