Did you try the fix from Jesse Barnes?  It's in the 2.6.32 stable tree
as well, so it will be in Squeeze eventually:

(well, this does disable the clock adjustments and thereby probably
much of the powersavings, but the comment doesn't leave us any other
option at the moment - whether we like it or not)

Personally, I haven't seen this flickering issue at all, so it's most
likely depending on your hardware.  I'm using a X301 with a GM45
chipset.
