I have recently attempted again to make the modem work on my ThinkPad T61=
=20
running Debian Squeeze amd64, without success. I am using sl-modem-daemon=
=20
2.9.11~20100303-2, linux 2.6.32, and alsa-base 1.0.21+dfsg-2.  I have built=
 my=20
own kernel using Debian's source.

# slmodemd -a hw:0
error: mixer setup: Off-hook switch not found for card hw:0
SmartLink Soft Modem: version 2.9.11 Apr  4 2010 19:50:11
symbolic link `/dev/ttySL0' -> `/dev/pts/2' created.
modem `hw:0' created. TTY is `/dev/pts/2'
Use `/dev/ttySL0' as modem device, Ctrl+C for termination.

Then I try to dial out with wvdial, and slmodemd outputs:

error: cannot set channels for playback: Invalid argument

I have tried non-free linuxant.com stuff but it seems to all be outdated. =
Any=20
ideas?  Thanks.
