Seems that these were safe, cause today I inserted that used CPU cooler
from a Ebay seller and it appears to work. Nonetheless acpi -t just shows
similar temperatures, even higher ones when set to performance cpufreq
governor:

deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 55.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 56.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 56.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 56.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 56.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 62.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 62.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 62.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 62.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 62.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 62.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 62.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 62.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 60.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 60.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 60.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 60.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 60.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 60.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 66.0 degrees C

Okay, but there is a steady flow of air coming out of the machine and it
seems that cooling works:

deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 63.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 63.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 63.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 59.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 57.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 57.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 56.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 56.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 56.0 degrees C
deepdance:~> acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 56.0 degrees C

Its quite hot here, so cooling the laptop might be more of a challenge
than on colder days.

I am setting to cpufreq governor "ondemand" now and let it do a full dist-
upgrade.

But I think the new cooler works.

This is for reference when someone else wants to know with temperatures
still appear to work. I am interested in numbers from other T23 owners
tough.

Thanks to IBM for the suberb hardware manual! I now why I like these
laptops.

Ciao,
