Latest stock T43 BIOS will accept a 120 GB PATA, but only very specific mod=
els/brands. There is at least one Hitachi and several Fujitsu (recommended)=
 that are both high performance and compatible.

I'm running 500 GB SATA3 7200 RPM drives in my T60 and T61 now, believe the=
 640 GB will also operate fine. T60 class ThinkPads have mechanical and pow=
er limitations, not geometry or capacity ones.
