No problems with Squeeze, well Wheezy now with 2.6.37, 2.6.38.

But well if you try a newer kernel, better avoid 2.6.34 to 2.6.36.1 if I 
remember correctly. They had a nasty bug with Radeon KMS that freezes the 
system completely at unexpected times. I made a kernel bug report and 
someone else a freedesktop one about this.

But then I think I didn't have problems with 2.6.32, but I do think that I 
had KMS disabled with that one.

You can try disabling KMS under /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf to see 
whether that is really the issue.
