Check out the aspect ratio: 1920x1200 is 16:10, whereas 1920x1080 is
16:9.  I'm in no hurry to get a 16:8 screen but unless I die young, it
seems like I won't be able to avoid it.

CPU, maybe.  RAM, no: it's (much) cheaper to upgrade later on.
Just keep on eye on the price for your RAM modules and when they
plateau, upgrade all you can.
