[ltp] strange behaviour of wireless

just for the record of this:

I finally "solved" this by explicitely setting the encryption key off:

iwconfig wlan0 essid ... key off

Just leaving the argument did not unset the key, as I wrongly assumed. 
Now, the whole thing is a lot less scaring …
