I only ever used plain ALSA (ok, I tried Pulse Audio some years ago
but wasn=E2=80=99t able to nicely play music in XMMS anymore so I dropped
it=E2=80=A6). Therefore, I doubt that this is the problem. All speakers are
also maxed in ALSA (esp. PCM and Master) and the sound still is very
quiet.

This only changes when I use VLC to icnrease the gain over 100%, but
this was never necessary with the X300.
