I continue to struggle with my X220-tablet vs. both forms of suspend.
Several things made things better
but I still cannot say this works well.

1. remove the video and network and bluetooth drivers during "spin
down"
(Hardware detection will put them back)
2. unmount any external USB or Firewire(tm) drives or devices
3. unmount any SD-card
4. have a "large enough" swap partition
(This makes no sense but it helped.)

I read online where folks have this working well, but I have yet to get
an explanation
-- that is, "Do steps 1, 2, ..., N" -- that makes this work well.

In a similar boat. Willing to help. Not sure how.
