According to man mount, the default is now "relatime", which gives most 
of the performance improvement of "noatime", while still doing a write 
in the (rare) case that the saved atime is older than the modification 
time. This is the default since 2.6.30. So, I think that most newer 
systems can live with the defaults, and there's no need to apply this tweak.
