I tested the debian-sources kernel 3.16.2-3. Although I am stack at the (initramfs) shell, because the zfs pool doesn't import/mount properly (root lives in it), I can verify that the adaptive key-bar works, and switching to/from home mode does as well. So, go for a newer kernel :-)
