>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 > Hi all,
>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 > my machine is getting old and I'd like to replac=

>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 > clear signs of nearly 10 years everyday use and bein=

Yes, sure. But I am really limited by the CPU power. My main use is acually=
LaTeX, and although this is using a huge number of small files (perfect fo=
r SSD), those are all cached and I don't expect a big increase in speed=
for TeXing.
Plus, the fan is dying, there's a (small) crack in the housing and the =
screen is getting loose. Nothing that cannot be fixed, but alltogether too =
much work for an old machine. Of course I'll keep it as a secondary mac=
hine.

>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 > So I'm looking for a new machine. Unfortunately,=
all new thinkpads
>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 > have this annoying macbook-style keyboards instead o=
f the nice old
>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 > ones with the cone-shaped keys. This is one of the r=
easons I'm asking
>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 > here for some advice:
>
> I face the same problem, even more annoying than the shape of the
> keyboard is its distribution and the fact that a lot of keys a missing=
,
> since I have bound a lot of functions to these keys, I feel lost with<=
br>
> the new layout.

Same here.

>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 > What do you think would be the best replacement? Mos=
t important points
>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 > for me are the compactness (~12"), robustness a=
nd, if somehow
>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 > possible, the same keyboard style. Doesn't have =
to be a new machine,
>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 > used is fine =E2=80=93 but I'm not sure which wa=
s the last model with a nice
>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 > keyboard. Also, I don't care about high-res scre=
ens or media stuff
>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 > etc.
>
> I think the last ones with a traditional good Thinkpad keyboards are t=
he
> 201 series.

And I guess there's no way to fit one of the old keyboards into a new o=
ne? Has anyone tried/heard of that?

Thank you guys for the quick answers!

Best,
