ifconfig Carrier problem, addendum

I got the latest version I found at the site
ftp://csb.stanford.edu/pub/pcmcia.  It is version 3.0.14.  I have installed
it and it is still behaving essentially the same.  lots of carrier errors
counted from ifconfig.  Any other ideas?  Thanks.
