XF86_SVGA for 770X seems to be corrupted

Holger,
I had the same problem with SuSE 6.1, and got it to work.
Just from the top of my head:
I remember the problem was somehow hidden in the SuSE X startup scripts, I
think everything starts with the script startx.
It seams to be a SuSE specific problem.
If you need further assistance or the complete solution, just let me know I
think I made some notes, but I don't have them handy right now.
