The 128M configuration of the 770Z has 64M on the motherboard and a 64M
module (and an empty module slot). Perhaps your 64M module has become
unseated or failed. Open the panel on the bottom of your Thinkpad (it's
fastened with a single Philips-head screw) and see if the module is
securely seated. If you have access to another Thinkpad, try swapping
modules.
