if you mean an xterm
just find an icon on the bottom of the screen that looks like
a screen.
if you mean shut down X
there is a menu item like logout or something similar.
that should do it unless you are in runlevel5 (you don't ever have
to startx it just starts on boot.
if that is the case you might have a virtual terminal
try ctrl+alt + function keys (f1 i think)
should bring you a command prompt.
