I use the 3com Office Connect ISDN LAN modem which handles the dial up
very well.  You do not mention ISDN but if you have a LAN at home surely
that is the direction you are going ;-)

I think I will try the Samba stuff too, then I can use the HP printer
attached to my wife's/kids' PC bwhich I am not allowed to install Linux
on :-(
