I am suffering from the same problems as Chris:
Can't get any other screen resolutions than 1024x768 on the TP770Z
(running RH 6.0 2.2.10 kernel).
Did quite a bit of fiddling in XF86Config. Tried with and without "vesafb".
Also tried the XF86_FBDev server in combination with vesafb.
I can switch to say 800x600 or 640x480 but then the screen simply blanks
(= turns black). Am using the regular modeline settings as in Bill Mair's
XF86Config for the 770Z.

X Server doesn't complain and does recognize the modes:

(**) SVGA: Option "accel"
(**) SVGA: Option "power_saver"
(**) SVGA: Using 32 bpp, Depth 24, Color weight: 888
(--) SVGA: Maximum allowed dot-clock: 115.000 MHz
(**) SVGA: Mode "1024x768": mode clock = 75.000
(**) SVGA: Mode "800x600": mode clock = 60.750
(**) SVGA: Mode "640x480": mode clock = 36.000
(**) SVGA: Virtual resolution set to 1024x768
(--) SVGA: Using Linear Frame Buffer at 0x070800000, Size 4MB

Can't use anything else but 32 bpp color depth otherwise even 1024x768
doesn't work.

Anyone any suggestions?
