Hello,
I just got a old ThinkPad 380ED and started to put
Linux on it. I could almost report sucess, except for
the sound card. I have tried both the OSS/Free and
ALSA sound drivers.
No matter what I do, I keep getting a "device or
resource busy" error message. The resource that is
telling as busy is the IO port. It takes neither one
of the standard ones: 0x530 and 0x534, much less the
other five or six choices that RedHat sndconfig gives
me, whith them, sndconfig just bombs out. I know that
it is one of the CS4236 chips, as I have already seen
it on the logs, but it happens that the drivers won't
auto detect them, and I was fool enough to fdisk
Windows out of the way before I took a carefull look
at those drivers. As it was, I know that the card
isn't PCI nor PnP, and I do not know how to configure
it correctly. The drivers do detect the chip even
though they will not work.
Is there anything I can do to get sound on this
notebook? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Víctor Rafael Rivarola Soerensen
