[ltp] ibm pcmcia modem

hi all:
When i try to configure the modem with the dial up configuration tool, i get 
the following message in the debug window:
cont open /dev/ttys0: input/output error
error: unable to initialize modem
Also, here is what i see in the messages file when i try to dial:

Feb 15 20:42:00 localhost ifup-ppp: pppd started for ppp1 on /dev/ttyS0 at

Feb 15 20:42:00 localhost modprobe: can't locate module char-major-108
Feb 15 20:42:01 localhost pppd[2162]: The remote system (ppp1) is required 
to authenticate itself but I
Feb 15 20:42:01 localhost pppd[2162]: couldn't find any suitable secret 
(password) for it to use to do so.

Also, i get the following messages in the messages file when i insert the 
card.
