I have been trying to install 'Complete Linux O/S 6.5' and I have tried
installing the free version of Red Hat 6.1. In both cases neither
DiskDurid or fdisk can find the hda table. I have installed Linux (and SUN
O/S) on other hardware before with very complicated hardware
configurations with little trouble. Here is the hardware/software
configuration:
IBM 600E (2645-4BU 12/99), 400Mhz Intel, 288 meg of RAM, 10 Gig harddrive.
BIOS Version INET25WW. Fully supported by Red Hat 6.0 (according to IBM
http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/MIGR-4BP6Q6.html).
Currently configured with NT4.0 SP5
I am using Partition magic 4.0 with the 4.01 patch. I want to Dual boot NT
and Linux. Here is the harddrive config as read from Partition Magic:
Physical Geometry: 1299,240,63
partition 0 NTFS 6,142.5 Active/Primary (last physical sector
831,239,63)
partition 1 Linux Ext 2 2,532.3 None/Primary (first sector 832,0,1 last
sector 1174,239,63)
partition 2 FAT16X 516.8 None/Primary
partition 3 Extended 398.7 None/Primary
partition 4 Linux Swap 132.9 None/Logical
partition 5 Linux Swap 132.9 None/Logical
partition 6 Linux Swap 132.9 None/Logical
When the Intall boots off the CDROM, The Kernal correctly recognizes and
loads the drivers for Video, CD and finds the correct harddrive. I ran
the install with 'text expert hda=1299,240,63'. When I flip to the log
console, the install correctly shows that the harddrive has been
configured as shown above with the right drive geometry but the wrong size
(shows 7XXX Meg). The Hitachi drive has a true physical geometry of
16383,15,63 (printed on the drive case) which I also tried. No luck.
The Error:
"An error occured while reading the partition table for the block device
hda. The error was: No such file or Directory"
Anyone have any suggestions? Is the first NTFS partition to big?
