I had the same problem with my 600X. You have to do the text mode install.
Once that's done, you need to replace the XF86Config file with one that
specifies the NM2200 chipset. Then it works fine.
Attached is my XF86Config file. I doubt it's optimal, but once it started
working, I never touched it again.
