I was already about to write that I doubt that it's related to
kernels >2.2.14 then I just realized that I had massive problems on the
TP770X with 2.2.16 and VMware using Token Ring in host-only networking
mode. In this setup the machine died repeatedly so badly that the
VMware's Windows NT filesystem was severly damaged. Going back to 2.2.14
made the system work perfectly again.
On the other hand, friends of mine are running 2.2.16 with Ethernet
PCMCIA adapters without any problems and I am also running 2.2.16 on 3
desktops where one is a dual PPro SMP.
Independent of this 2.2.16 situatation, it was reported here many times
that folks have the Etherjet 10/100 Cardbus running nicely in the TP600
but I haven't heard from anybody yet that he is successfully running
this adapter in a TP770X. Since I have traded my Etherjet for a 3COM
long before 2.2.16 came out I unfortunately can't try to get the
Etherjet going with 2.2.16.
