[ltp] Internal/external display use

It seems the problem with inoperational Ctrl-Alt-NumPad+ or
Ctrl-Alt-NumPad- is more ubiquitous, that would be expected. Can 
someone explain if and how this key sequences can be made usable. Is 
Xmodmap the key to solve the mistery?
