Try connecting /dev/serial to /dev/ttyS00 and you will have one each
buffered serial port...

I don't know how to set up the Palm program under Linux, but it does
involve setting the default serial port to /dev/ttyS00.
However, your serial port IS working. Take a look at dmesg | more and
you will find it there.
