I'm glad to report that the problem indeed did go away. Obviously I have
not tried to fallback to the old Token Ring driver to really verify that
the new driver did the trick. I have changed the following 3 parameters
and either one of them or any combination have fixed the problem:
o Completely fresh install of RedHad 7.0
o VMware 2.0.3
o latest Token Ring driver as suggested by Burt.
PS: when I insterted the Token Ring adapter first I got hundreds of
messages like:
Nov 6 09:50:49 blackbox kernel: tr0: Arrg. Transmitter busy
I then did a 'ifconfig tr0 down' and pulled/plugged the card and then
the problem did not occur anymore. Can you shed some light into
this? What does that message mean and what kind of problem does it
indicate?
Anyway, thanks much for your help Burt. Until now I was stuck with
linux-2.2.14 and I knew at some point in time this would turn into a
problem.
