The problem is probably that the serial port is
switched off. tpctl 0.8.9 is capable of controlling
the power of the serial port through the APM
interface, but enabling this capability requires
a kernel patch (supplied in the tpctl 0.8.9 tarball).
The alternative is to use the DOS program PS2.EXE .
