had made a floppy dir earlier this morning trying to get it to work.

vfat is the enhanced version of FAT (MS-DOS filesystem) that supports long
filenames and other directory attributes. It can read FAT12 disks of any
version (within reason that i have tested), so your dos 6.22 floppies should
even work.
ever try sticcking a dos/NT formatted floppy in and typing
mkdir /floppy (this may exist)
mount /dev/fd0 /floppy
cd /floppy
ls
?
