Wild conjecture: low-end machines playing DVDs are probably doing the decode
in hardware, not software. The hardware in turn probably paints directly to
the video RAM, which in turn is not rendered to the S-out port, because it
wasn't generated the normal way, and thus isn't captured by the VGA->video
translator.
Caveat: I made all that up on a hunch, but it does seem to fit the (megre)
facts at hand. I should RTFM, but this is recreation for me, not work.
