Dear Erin,
In my experience, VMWare is a good product, and it does mean that you
can "Alt-Tab" between Windows and Linux. They both run at the same time!
That has the advantage of greater speed if you need to use software in
both OS at the same time. But you will need a much higher spec'd pc, and
if Windows crashes, your "virtual" Linux system will go down with it.
Also, VMWare does have its own problems.
You'll get better performance if you dual boot, unless you constantly
need both Win and Lin at the same time.
If you do use VMWare, may I suggest that you run a virtual copy of
Windows on a Linux machine, not the other way round. After all, the best
thing about Linux is that it's stable!
Overall, I'd advise going with Dual Boot.
