Dear ltp readers,

Finally, I have managed to get the external display working on my A20p!

Method:

Download the source to XFree86 4.0.2. (Only 22MB)

Update the xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/drivers/ati directory
with the latest stuff from CVS at xfree86.org.

Update xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/common with the file
xf86PciInfo.h also from the latest stuff.

Compile and install XFree86. (Back up /etc/X11 and /usr/X11R6
first!!!)

Use the files from the attached .tgz file. It contains:

XF86Config-4 - An updated config file matching my montor here
and the IBM 1400x1050 LCD display.

int - Starts X on the internal (LCD) display

ext - Starts X on the external (CRT) display

Make sure that you switch to the appropriate display before
starting X. The XF86 config file includes the option "UseBIOSDisplay"
and this seems to work fine with the very latest drivers.

The only things I had trouble with was compiling the GLX/mesa stuff,
and that the font server (xfs) did not work from the compiled version.
Solution to the mesa problem was to change host.def to tell the make
system not to bother and the font server problem was fixed by restoring
the original one from my distribution. (Mandrake 7.2)

Any feedback would be most welcome.

Enjoy!

Mike.
