I have just switched from my old TP-770X to a new T21 a few weeks ago. I
have copied over my RedHat 7.0 installation and manually updated to
XFree86-4.0.2. So far I have not been too lucky with the savage dirvers
for this machine. The pre 1.1.14 drivers had the problem that when I
switched the display resolution the upper part of the display image had
all kinds of color distortions. Assuming I would never change the
resolution this driver was ok which means I could always switch into VT
consoles and even terminate X and go back to normal console
mode. However, since I am doing presentations using a beamer once in a
while I need to be able to switch video modes so I decided to upgrade
the savage driver to 1.1.14 first and then to the brand new 1.1.15. The
situation is now as follows:

  - can switch resolution, now color distortions
  - after fresh reboot, can switch into text mode consoles and
terminate X and be back in text mode
  - cannot run xmms to view mpegs anymore, this used to work fine with
    the pre 1.1.4 driver.
  - After running X for a while, can't switch to text mode consoles
anymore, they just give a black screen. Terminating X doesn't work
either. I end up with a black screen but can still type commands,
however anything else than 'reboot' or 'startx' doesn't make sense
    anymore.

Is there anybody out there with ideas with respect to an appropriate
video setup for the T21? Are there probably some secret options in the
Xconfig file?
