This is not quite true. I had XFree-4.0.1 running on my TP 770X since
RedHat 7.0 came out and that was quite a few months ago. The problem is
that I first (after each reboot) have to get X up with the XF86_SVGA
from the Redhat 6.2 distribution and then I can reconfigure X to use
XFree-4.0.1. Using that sequence it works flawlessly. Not using this
sequence causes a total freeze of the machine and I have to hold the
power-off button for 3s in order to turn the machine really off. The
same symptoms occur with XFree86-4.0.2 binary (I have not updated the
whole XFree though. Just installed the 4.0.2 XFree binary).
Does anybody else experience similar symptoms? Any idea on how to avoid
this problem?
