[ltp] new RH 7.1 on a t21

Hi,

I recently installed Red Hat 7.1 on my T21 and 2 of the programs I rely
pretty heavily on are no longer functional (they worked fine under RH
6.2). The first program is gnomeicu (a gnome ICQ clone); it apparently
can't connect to the ICQ server (I get a string of messages saying
Connection unreliable - reconnect). I tried various things including
stopping ipchains to disable the firewall to no avail. The problem
apparently isn't the combination of RH 7.1 and this version of gnomeicu
as that combination works fine on my desktop machine at work. Has
anybody come up against this ?

Second, I use some web conferencing software called vrvs and sound no
longer works for it (makes the teleconferencing aspects pretty useless
!). Sound seems to work fine otherwise but the vrvs people claim it's
the lousy driver that Red Hat provides for the CS4297A rev B sound chip
in the T21 that's the problem. Has anybody had this problem ? Would it
be straightforward to back out the new driver for this chip and use the
old one (i.e. whatever was working in RH 6.2, provided that the vrvs
folks are right) ?

Sorry for the long winded message and thanks for any tips,
