Thank you all, especially Paul for his help, my modem is finally working, what a
relieve.
I used KPPP in KDE to dial in to the internet. To summarize what I did:
-correct IRQ conflict between modem and PCMCIA.
-configure etc/resolv.conf, etc/ppp/options
-run minicom to check the connection status
-run kppp to access the internet and other
