Greetings,

I am trying to install RedHat 7.0 on a iSerie1200.

The problem is that the x server does not start.
During the normal (text-mode) installation process,
I choosed a not listed card out of the videocard-list and then
I choosed the SVGA server. I tried this configuration with
every monitor that is listed but the xserver did not start.
Everytime it failed with "There is a problem with your XConfig..."
"...go back and ..."

After that I autoprobed by hand:

# X -probeonly > /tmp/out
(where X is a symlink to XF86_SVGA)

and it deteced a SMI LynxEM+ with 4MB of videoram

I donīt know if this is correct because IBM do not
describe their products very well, do they?

and it said something about 1024x768 dotclock 65.000
or whatever.
When I was trying to start the server by hand it failed
with the words:

"no valid modes for 1024x768"

ok, I am not very familiar with the XF86Config file.

what do I have to do? Have I done a mistake much earlier
during the installation process?

Has got somebody the same configuration at a running state?

I am really in a mess because I need to get this to work
very soon.

Frank
