No ideas. But I have some info as well. When I leave out "Load "extmod"" (effectively
disabling Xvideo and hardware movie accleration) from the Modules section of XF86Config-4,
I can play DVDs and MPEGs, without any problems.....(except for the high CPU load). So,
I think that validates the theory that the xvideo extension has bugs.
With xvideo enabled, I can play DVDs and MPEGS (at 16 bpp, never at 24 bpp) for about the
first 6 hrs of starting X. After that it goes back to its old behaviour of rendering weird
blue, red, yellow scan lines....with perfect audio. I have tried it a few times and It
invariably stops working after a while.
I would be interested in knowing if your success in playing DVDs is time limited like mine.
Also, its weird that you cant play mpegs while you can play DVDs. Have you tried xmovie
from http://heroinewarrior.com/xmovie.php3 to play your MPEGs?
