[ltp] T-20 LCD go out?

hi there,
my tp 760el darkened two months ago, it seemed familiar to me since my former contura went off
the same way.
the good thing was that there is all the maintenance-how-to-unscrew stuff on the web,
see downloads.ibm.com, hardware maintenance manual
the bad thing is, however, that ibm sells the sparepart lcd display only as a whole,
they dont supply the neon stick separately.
the solution came, when my supplier, a used computer market sent me the backlight of a sharp display,
also 12,1' with horizontal top montage.
so i worked very carefully - you have to loosen the tape on the top edge of the display's back, loosen
the two screws on the back top of the display unit itself and then carefully bend the upper right and left
edges (thin metal). then you get the neon stick out. the connector is just standard - it was the same in
my former compaq, the original built in ibm, and the one from the sharp.
so - this part is somewhat standard.
it's really not ecological not to supply the part thats been used up after 3-4 years while the expensive
lcd is still good and working - but...
finally - don't set the display shutdown too short, while continuously running such a fluorescent device does not
hurt it, but every start up stresses the neon stick again and shortens the lifetime of it significally.
