Can we PLEASE stop posting follow-ups to this PERL fest?  This is SO off-topic:

   * PERL tricks are OT to the linux-thinkpad list.
   * Statistical algorithms are OT to the linux-thinkpad list.
   * It is never appropriate to provide answers to students trolling for help with their homework.  At most, point students to reference works and let them figure it out for themselves.
