I'm not sure what the correct value should be, but it reports
DISPLAY=:0.0 and xterm certainly seems to work.

I have tried turning this flag off and also running with a very
minimalist capability, but I get no further.
My research has found a few other people with similar problems
but different laptops/configurations. The common theme was the
SiliconMotion video chip. Does anyone know if improved X support
will be forthcoming for SiliconMotion (affecting many of the
i1200 and i1300 machines, at least) in XFree86 4.1?
Thanks!
