Hi all,
I am happy to report that the problem is fixed and my KDE has been up and
running for over 4 hours without a single crash (which is a great
improvement over the 4-5 minutes I was getting!!).
The solution was rather embarrassingly simple: BIOS upgrade.
My previous BIOS upgrade was done about a year ago. I downloaded the
latest one from IBM this morning, installed it, and the problem's gone.
As many of you pointed out, the problem seems to have been related to the
CPU speed. Before the upgrade, my /proc/cpuinfo was showing the CPU speed
at about 200Mhz. Now it's running happily at the full 498.284Mhz.
Thanks to all of you who gave me valuable pointers!
best,
Na-Rae
