My experience is that ThinkPads are very friendly to Linux, compared to other 
brands (built in hardware, power management, all features available under 
Linux etc.). A friend of mine uses an a22m with windows only, but the 
hardware in this ThinkPad shouldn't be a problem. If you have the choice 
between a 3com and an Intel network/modem card, you should choose the Intel 
card, because AFAIR the modem on the 3com card has no Linux driver.
