such as this?
leeloo:/home/bkk# hdparm -tT /dev/hda && hdparm -tT /dev/hda && hdparm -tT /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 Timing buffer-cache reads:   128 MB in  0.92 seconds =139.13 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads:  64 MB in  5.31 seconds = 12.05 MB/sec

/dev/hda:
 Timing buffer-cache reads:   128 MB in  0.94 seconds =136.17 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads:  64 MB in  4.32 seconds = 14.81 MB/sec

/dev/hda:
 Timing buffer-cache reads:   128 MB in  1.11 seconds =115.32 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads:  64 MB in  4.07 seconds = 15.72 MB/sec

i have found a *much* more acurate measure is to use bonnie++ - written
by russell coker. look at http://www.coker.com.au/bonnie++/ for details.
all in all, a more thourough comparison can be had this way.
