AFAIK it's quite unlikely - iirc there are some specific hardware bits and
pieces [programmable controllers and the like] which use I2C, but I don't
think there are any thinkpads with them built in [other than the lm chip,
which we're obviously not going to try and use here :)].
I know I've never compiled I2C support in, except once on a rackmounted box
with an lm sensor in it.
You can find out more at http://www.netroedge.com/~lm78/:
2.2 What is the SMBus? And the I2C bus?
The SMBus is the "System Management Bus". More specifically, it is a
2-wire, low-speed serial communication bus used for basic health
monitoring and hardware management. It is a specific implementation of
the more general I2C (pronunciation: I-squared-C) bus. In fact, both I2C
devices and SMBus devices may be connected to the same (I2C) bus.
