Yeah, its probably easiest to just get an updated kernel RPM from Mandrake. 
It was their release of 2.4.3 that had the bug. I think they're releasing a 
newer kernel now in the upgrade. You can also cheat and install 8.1 RPMS, 
hehe. 99% of them should work fine in 8.0.
