[ltp] Thinkpad 600e - Redhat 7.1 - Sound problems

I have RH 7.1 on my IBM Thinkpad 600e with alsa-driver-0.5.11,
alsa-lib-0.5.10, alsa-utils-0.5.10 compiled and installed.  My 
modules.conf looks like this:

# ALSA native device support
alias char-major-116 snd
options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limit=1
options snd-card-cs4236 snd_port=0x530 snd_cport=0x538 snd_irq=5 snd_dma1=1 
snd_dma2=0 snd_fm_port=0x388
alias snd-card-0 snd-card-cs4236
 
# OSS/Lite setup
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm1-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm1-oss

And it will not load.  I have looked all over the internet
for this (deja.com, google, mail archives) and
I haven't found a solution that works.
